Assistance to indigent applicants :

Applications seeking assistance from the Chief Minister's Relief Fund for treatment of major ailments such as cardiac surgery ,renal transplant, cancer and the like are pouring in from all corners of the State in increasing numbers. Assistance provided from the Chief Minister's Relief Fund in favour of indigent applicants during the preceding years is as below:

C.M.R.F. assistance for :-

i) Major mishaps :

Ex-gratia assistance to the next of the kins of the victims of major mishaps / accidents such as the road accident in West Bengal on 04.01.2003 with death toll of 33, Baitarani Boat capsize on 08.03.2002 with death toll 26, Upper Colab Boat Capsize on 07.02.2003 with death toll 8, Athgarh fire explosion on 18.03.2003 with death toll of 11, road accident at Uttara Chhak, Bhubaneswar on 17.12.2002 with death toll 2, roof collapse in Dapur High School, Kendrapara on 22.07.2003 with death toll 2, road accident near Balipasi of Angul District on 05.03.2004 with death toll 6, major road accident in Sambalpur on 20.01.2004 with death toll 11, persons died due to electrocution in Jharsuguda District with death toll 4, temple collapse in Remuna of Balasore District with death toll 6, Gas explosion at Sambalpur on 02.09.2005 with death toll 1, road accident at Asureswar of Cuttack District on 21.11.2005 with death toll 9, Gas explosion at Cuttack with death toll 4, road accident at Karanjia on 13.02.2006 with death toll 8 and missing of fishermen at Puri on 07.03.2006 with death toll 12 etc. has been provided from the Chief Minister's Relief Fund in compassionate consideration of the cases.

iii) Custodial death / Death due to Police firing etc.

In compassionate consideration of applications of next of kins of persons who expire while in Police / Judicial custody or die accidentally due to Police firing etc. are provided with assistance from the C.M.R.F. (Here are some of the instances)

Assistance provided to the next of the kins of the victims who died due to Heat wave :

A sum of Rs.6,70,000/- , Rs.4,30,000/- , Rs 23,30,000/- and Rs. 1,80,000/- have been provided out of Chief Minister's Relief Fund during the year 2003-2004 , 2004-2005, 2005-2006 and 2006-2007 to the next of the kins who died due to Heat wave @ Rs.10,000/- each.

Assistance to other States / out side agencies :

  • As a gesture of sympathy to the earthquake victims of Gujrat, assistance of Rs.1,81,84,814/- has been provided to the Government of Gujrat fot relief / reconstruction works in the affected areas.
  • Assistance of Rs.1,00,00,000/- was provided to the Government of Andhra Pradesh for the Flood victims of the State during the year 2001.
  • A sum of Rs.2,00,000/- has been provided for construction Super Specialty Hospital at Palampur in the District of Kangra, Himachal Pradesh.
  • A sum of Rs.3,55,13,267/- has been provided to the Andaman & Nicobar Islands for the TSUNAMI victims during the year 2004-05.
  • A sum of Rs. 1,00,00,000/- has been provided for relief and rehabilitation of earth quake victims of Jammu and Kashmir.

Super Cyclone repair / reconstruction works :

Generous donation to the tune of Rs.57.10 crores was received from different State Governments and agencies under their control, Public & Private Institutions, Business & Industrial houses and Individuals for relief, repair and reconstruction works in the Super Cyclone affected areas of the State.

OSDMA was entrusted to the task of repair / reconstruction works with C.M.R.F. assistance of Rs.61,88,60,818/-. The following projects were taken up :

Reconstruction works in the Adopted Districts :

Government of Karnataka, Maharastra, Andhra Pradesh, Rajasthan, Arunachal Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh & New Delhi have adopted Kendrapara, Jagatsinghpur, Ganjam, Bhadrak, Balasore, Jajpur & Puri Districts respectively for reconstruction works with donation of Rs.24,30,96,443/-.
